Pick of the Week: Countdown Presents: the Search
for Ray Palmer - Crime Society. In what would also receive
"Longest Title of the Week"- pick, Countdown Presents... might
just be the best countdown tie-in so far. In my humble opinion, though, it's
because it has pretty much nothing to do with it. The last 4 or so pages are
recaps from Countdown 31, but everything up to that, is the origin of The
Jokester, one of the few heroes on Earth 3.
The best part is that, although it's almost just a new twist on the origin we
already know, since our good Justice League is their bad Crime
Society, "Joker" now looks more like a good
guy. Kinda. At the end of the day, this issue has made me want to read more
about the Crime Society and The Jokester, and
that's the main thing a comic should do.
(For more great
reading of the Crime Society, I also recommend Grant Morrison's JLA: Earth 2
GN. It's pre-Infinite Crisis, so it's a different Earth number, but it's
still the same good, old Crime Society)

ARROW YEAR ONE #5 (OF 6) (well done! Great story of the Ollie we know and
love…), JLA HITMAN #2 (OF 2) (…great end to a great two-shot
story-line), METAL MEN #3 (OF 8) (…I just like the Metal Men), WOLVERINE
ANNUAL DEATHSONG #1 (…more proof that “…he’s the best there is at what he
does…”, and provides a moral lesson to always be nice to little old ladies)!
