Clif’s “Pick of the Week”: Spider-Man: Reign #1. There’s only one word
that can accurately describe this issue: “holy-freakin’-crap-that-was-amazing”!
The simplest way to describe this book is The Dark Knight Returns only
with Spider-Man. Years into a dark future, an aged Peter Parker is given
a “gift” and the chance to put his city back to a place where it truly belongs
and where people truly feel safe again. However, don’t let an inevitable
comparison as that deter you from trying it because it has the chance to be so
much more. All these years later, Kaare Andrews (who
writes and draws the 4-issue mini) has had the opportunity to fine tune a story
like Dark Knight, and add so many elements into it. To be fair, it’s
really more like a combination of Dark Knight, the Watchmen and V
for Vendetta. Outside of regular continuity (like Civil War), I think this
could possibly be one of the finest stories in quite some number of years.
