No. 88, Week of May 21, 2007
Outland Comics Third Annual Anniversary
Watch for more information!
Welcome to Outcries! ItR17;s another great
week for events that “…will alter the (insert publisher here) universe as we
know it ….forever!” with more Marvel Civil War prologue tie-ins and for
the continuing Infinite Crisis/52 stories. DC has Countdown
#49 and the Infinite Crisis Series 2 Action Figures from DC Direct
this week. Marvel has Captain
And speaking of universes and changes, etc., Marvel
promises that some big surprises are in store in the forthcoming New
Avengers #31: “YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS ISSUE! REALLY! This issue sets
the stage for the 2008 Marvel year...it all starts here...this book will serve
as the "opening shot" for the entire event.” The events of New
Avengers Illuminati #1 (of 5) are also supposed to play a role. Stay tuned
(is Cap coming back? Again?)!
And we have not one but TWO R20;Pick of
the WeekR21; entries this week with both
ClifR17;s Pick of the Week: All-Star Batman & Robin #5.
That's right. You heard me. All-Star Batman has finally come out
again. It may have taken it a year, but we get the issue that we've all been
wantin' since it began back in 1999 (just kidding). The Justice League
was pushing things a little far with how tough we're supposed to think they
are, but the Batman parts were spot on – a “dark” Knight – who’s
thoroughly enjoying every minute of his "job". It feels like Frank
Miller is poking fun at himself a little bit (which you have to when your
book is a year late) and I love Jim Lee's art. Some of the best Batman
(I think) that I've seen him draw. To be fair, though, his work does tend to
look a lot alike. Overall, not sure if it was worth the full year's wait, but
it is definitely worth reading! Let's hope we get more by 2009 (did I mention
this issue was a year late?).
DerekR17;s Pick of the Week: All-Star Batman & Robin #5.
I want everyone to pick up All Star Batman and Robin #5, by Frank
Millar and Jim Lee. It was great – even if you haven't been
collecting this series pick up this issue! It has amazing art, as Jim Lee
is always great for that and the way that Frank Millar has been writing
everyone’s favorite vigilante is amazing! We get to see a younger version of Batman,
full of energy, excitement, determination, and a love for beating the hell out
of bad guys! He is even very cynical, scary, and, somewhat, crazy! When we
first see him in the book, laughing melodically and telling us how he 'Loves to
be the g**dammed Batman!’ it’s followed by a great monologue of just how much
he loves it! For those of you that are Bat-fans and want to see a cooler,
edgier, darker, version of the Dark Knight, pick up All Star Batman
and Robin (the Boy Wonder) #5. You won't regret it!
And as always, there’s the latest selection of Variant Covers, Trade Paperbacks, Graphic Novels
and Hardcovers! Enjoy!
