Outland Comics Newsletter: Outcries!
No. 104, Week of September 17, 2007
Welcome to Outcries!
We have been in contact with UPS – and with Diamond Comic Distributors – regarding the unanticipated delays in receiving our shipment of new comics and other items … and want everyone to know that we’re all working hard to resolve the problem. We hope that this will be corrected this week – but in the meantime – it might be a good idea to call the store in advance just to make sure so you don’t make a wasted trip. And again – we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience!
Clif’s Pick of the Week: Thor #3. Really, this week was a no brainer. As the cover shows us, this is the first meeting between Thor and Iron Man in the last 3 years or so and it does not go the way Stark was hoping. Thor shows us all what he thinks of a little thing we call "Clor" and just what Iron Man can do with it. After only 3 issues, Straczynski shows just how tough Thor can truly be. I think this might be my favorite Marvel issue since the infamous Captain America #25! If there was any doubt in your mind about this new series, this issue alone will sell you on it. This is a "do not miss" issue for any Marvel fan.
Recommended Reads from last week: BOOSTER GOLD #2 (….good, getting better…), BLACK ADAM THE DARK AGE #2 (OF 6) (…pretty good and worth checking out just to see the odd-ball survivalist handwork with body parts), DAREDEVIL #100 (…aside from the “soap-opera” type stuff that keeps cropping up ... exciting stuff for the “man without fear!”), LONE RANGER #8 (…always good!), SUICIDE SQUAD RAISE THE FLAG #1 (OF 8), TRIALS OF SHAZAM #8 (OF 12), …and THOR #3 (Like I said last week about Spidey – I always like to see Tony Stark get whipped…but this? Thor lets ol’ Tony know what can happen when you mess with a real god!! Plus – the touching moment when Thor “finds” another of his lost Asgardians among the helpless and hopeless in New Orleans…!).
Missed an issue – check with Clifton! We’re still able to get first printings of many of the titles you want! And as always we’ve got the latest selection of Variant Covers, Trade Paperbacks, Graphic Novels and Hardcovers!
Thoughts on Comics Continuity…..
I’ve been thinking lately about the stories going on in the DC titles – and Marvel to a certain extent (maybe I don’t read enough Marvel stuff?) – and it appears that what DC attempted to do for the past year with “setting the DC Universe right” has really begun to be get all garbled once again with regard to the continuity of stories among the various titles. I can’t remember exactly what reminded me but suddenly I wondered about those “One Year Later” titles and the promises of explaining in 52 what took place in between. And you know what? I’m still waiting. There’s been a number of things explained – or in some cases the stories have been so good that I don’t care – but really…do they (Marvel and DC) think we really forget? Where’s the explanation for Gordon being the Commissioner again? Harvey Bullock is back (yeah you haven’t seen him much but…), Harvey Dent filling in for Batman and then turning back into Two-Face? Where’s Hush (…and what the heck is his problem?), how can Catwoman be in the Outsiders (the bill for the baby sitter alone is worth a question or two), and what about Batgirl (Cassandra)? And what became of the “wife” of Ra’s Al Ghul who supposedly did the job on Talia a while back (turned her crazy)… but now she seems OK and is raising the son of Batman. Oh well. These are just some of what I can remember. What about you? Let us know what other “forgotten” stories lines you can thing of – and we’ll publish them here. I’ll even forward a note to the folks at DC or Marvel and see what they have to say for themselves.
Happy Reading!
